BIO
NAME: Hannah Wing, 38

YOUR INSPIRATION: I find inspiration in everything but nature and history tend to have a big impact on me.

ABOUT YOUR JOB: I am a freelance hair and makeup artist and lecturer in this subject (Makeup). What I love about my job is the creativity and that every day is different.

ABOUT YOUR CELEBRITY CLIENTS: I have worked with lots of celebrities and have been fortunate enough not to have experienced any 'diva' moments. I tend not to get phased by celebrities as they are only human and more often than not appreciate being treated 'normally'. I will say that I do have a bit of a crush on Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness; The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) and did blush a little when I was stood next to him on the red carpet at the BAFTA's a couple of years ago!

MOST INTERESTING PERSON YOU’VE MET: Wayne Hemingway (fashion designer). Wayne came from very humble beginnings in the north of England and has championed vintage design including upcycling and recycling since the 1980’s. He is very passionate about using materials and design in existence alongside welcoming contemporary. I had the pleasure of meeting Wayne several years ago and having been inspired by what he had to say, I contacted him. That was the start of my working relationship with him and his company.

YOUR STORY: I have always been interested in the arts and alongside my mainstream education, attended a drama school from the age of 11. By the time I had reached 18, I decided that despite being passionate about the industry, I should pursue an academic career to provide me with the financial stability that so often eludes individuals working in creative fields. I trained as a financial consultant and enjoyed an academic career for 12 years. A series of events made seriously consider my future and it was at this point that I decided to pursue my passion of working in film and television. It was either a very brave or totally mad decision but either way, I now run a successful business as a hair and makeup artist!

WHAT IS NASMAH? NASMAH is the National Association of Screen Makeup Artists and Hairdressers. NASMAH was formed to maintain the high standards of artistry achieved in previous years and to promote the profile of hair and make-up professionals in the industry.

TELL US ABOUT VINTAGE BEAUTY PARLOR: In 2011 I was approached to write a book about vintage hair and makeup with a side order of fashion! I was literally like a kid in a sweet shop! I was lucky enough to be able to style the book too so the whole experience was like a dream.

WHAT’S YOUR SIGNATURE MAKEUP LOOK? I love the styles from the late 1940’s and 1950’s.

MAKEUP
HOW SHOULD ONE MAINTAIN GREAT SKIN: Great skin is achieved with a combination of things. It is really important to remember that hormones play a huge part in the overall appearance of your skin so not to be too harsh when/if you have a breakout. Having said that, I firmly believe that a good skin care routine, lots of water, adequate sleep and not dragging your skin (when removing makeup) are essential.

INSIDE YOUR PERSONAL KIT: Bi facial from Lancome, Dior Black Out mascara, red lipstick and lip liner, eyebrow pencil.

A LIPSTICK SHADE THAT SUITS MOST SKIN TONES: Estee Lauder Bois Du Rose.

ULTIMATE BEAUTY ADVICE: Never sleep in your makeup and moisturise morning and evening.

FAVORITES
BLOOD-STRICKEN OR BEAUTY MAKEUP? Special effects makeup is always brilliant fun so if I was forced to choose, I would say blood stricken however there is a real reward in doing makeup for ladies who need a boost and who tell me how amazing they feel after I have worked on them.

FASHION ERA: I love fashion however I would say that style is key. For me, the 1940’s and 50’s suit my body shape but I always try to have a quirky edge to my wardrobe pieces and vintage allows me to do this. There is nothing worse than turning up to an event and finding some else in the same dress!

ACCESSORIES: Once again, I favor vintage however I have a passion for Manolo Blahnik. I love heels but for practical every day wear I’m all about brogues!

STYLE INVESTMENT: I will happily buy ‘throw away fashion’ from the high street but for me, there are key pieces everyone should invest good money in as they can be worn forever:
• Little black dress
• A perfect fit pair of jeans
• A white shirt
• A trench coat

STYLE ICON: Vivienne Westwood. I love the sense if individuality that Westwood promotes.

FASHION QUOTE: “Beauty is an attitude.” – Estee Lauder

LIFE QUOTE: “Carpe Diem” (Seize the day).

DESTINATION/S: A vintage emporium or flea market – anywhere in the world!

THINGS TO PACK ON A TRIP: Comfortable shoes and a cross body bag!

FAVORITE KATRE ITEM: Portobello. Vintage inspiration, practical and timeless!
