UK-based Instagram star Brittany Bathgate could very well be a Pinay trapped inside an English girl’s body—fashion-speak, that is. She may live a thousand miles away in Norwich, UK, but sartorially, she fits right in in the local aesthetic of many women in Manila, making her very relatable and appealing. Her classic style is timeless as it is refreshing, clutter-free with minimal accessories; her makeup is always fresh and never too much, even the photographs in her feed mimic her overall “packaging”.

Perhaps the most attractive aspect of her OOTDs is the fact that most of her clothes are in very attainable price points. She wears a lot of COS (the higher end sister of H&M that has yet to come to our shores) and some high street brands, sometimes splurging on a designer accessory or two. More often than not, one can see themselves wearing her looks head-to-toe and actually being able to afford the same exact pieces, which isn’t always the case with IG stars who parade in absurdly expensive designer wares (Prada! Chanel! Off-White!). Brittany shies away from loud colors, apparent branding and too trendy OOTDs, making her the perfect subject for a little lesson on transitional dressing. In our tropical shores, this simply means the shift from summer to rainy season, albeit nowadays, the line is incredibly blurred. It can be super sunny one moment and a sudden thunderstorm can arise. Confusing, right? Not to mention bad for the system.

We scoured the net for Brittany’s most Manila-fied looks, ensembles you can wear on sunny days turned rainy, both for work and play. While you’re at it, think of the Katre bags in your collection and make a mental note on what to pair with what; because just like her personal style, our bags are just as classic and cool. Stay dry and safe!

This office-appropriate look is both easy to copy and comfortable to wear in our hot, humid weather. The cotton stripe top is a must-have print in your closet, and so are the army green palazzo pants and long linen jacket that keeps you warm when the AC is full blast at work or in the mall. Flat yet stylish shoes finish off the simple yet impactful effect. Swap the basket for a more serious bag like the Mayfair satchel and you’ve got yourself a non-boring corporate ensemble.

Go the androgynous route with a simple long sleeved black shirt, tailored cropped grey trousers and patent brogues for work. Switch to strappy sandals in red or hot pink for an easy day to night look and finish off with the Bayswater in raven and you’re good to go meet the girls---or that hot guy.

A maxi dress in a lightweight fabric and interesting sleeves is always a good idea, especially in an unusual shade of blue-gray. Pair with flat, leather sandals or Tevas for rainy days and you need to commute. The Pullman mini train case in hazelnut pulls the look together, making it more dressy with a touch of retro vibe.

On days when it’s raining nonstop and you’ll be indoors all day long, a knit sweater paired with a pleated skirt is in order. Make the look exciting and pair it with socks in the same shade as your top plus leather boy shoes for ultimate comfort; this look is reserved for a taxi or Grab car home though, because, white! Prefer a more sporty take? Wear the same skirt with a long sweater and sneakers for that fun punch of fashion irony. The Sac Seau in hunter grain is the perfect coordinating accessory, and the only one you need for this ensemble TBH.

Don’t let the rain dampen your weekend wear. A short skirt is balanced off with a jacket and t-shirt combo, and high top sneakers will keep feet dry and toasty. The Double Sloane belt bag is the icing on this cool and casual look; wear it looped around your waist to keep hands available as you go about your free days.

The subtle nod to preppy dressing via a long tunic sweater, straight cut jeans and loafers is a tribute to minimalist ‘90s, done the 2019 way. The clean lines are devoid of any distracting detail and will keep you warm and chic all at once. Pair this with the Camden Market Midi Zip to keep things streamlined and fuss-free. Gwyneth (Paltrow) is clearly the peg here, yes?

Outfit #10

A lazy errand look shouldn’t appear haphazardly put together. Utilize the humble stripe tee, long cardigan and khakis you probably already have in your closet and pair it with timeless sandals to make grocery shopping, bills payment and school pick-up more fun. You’ll need a sling bag in a statement color to add that element of surprise. Our City Pint is a good candidate, the better to eat your well- deserved meal or cocktail with!
